People are flocking to A4 Pizza for – you guessed it – pizza. Like it’s sister restaurant Area Four in Cambridge, this family-friendly Somerville restaurant serves up wood-fired artisan pizzas using the best ingredients available. Unlike Area Four, A4 Pizza’s small dining area featuring strung construction lights, LP artwork and particle board bar feels like your neighborhood pizza joint – only cooler.

family-friendly restaurant tip A4 Pizza only has 36 seats – and they fill up quickly. Get there early or call to check how long the wait will be for a table.

Good. A4 staff greets the under drinking age crowd with a smile and will accommodate families. However, unlike its flagship restaurant, A4 does not have many kid-friendly amenities such as crayons and coloring sheets for kids. Highchairs and booster seats are hidden from sight.

family-friendly restaurant tip The dining area is small and narrow, so best leave the stroller outside or in the car.

Main Menu:

Like Area Four in Kendall Square, the menu at this family-friendly Somerville outpost is organized in two categories: Not Pizza and Pizza. Not Pizza items feature starters such as seasonal salads and crowd-pleasing Garlic Knots. Pizzas are the main attraction here. Described as a mix between “New Haven and Neapolitan in style” pizza, the blistered, chewy crusts holds together ingenious toppings such as fennel sausage and pickled banana peppers or Wellfleet clams and bacon.

Favorites include:

  • Margherita Pizza
  • Sausage & Banana Peppers Pizza
  • Buffalo Chicken & Gorgonzola
  • Garlic Knots

family-friendly restaurant tip A4 pizzas are personal-sized (12”) with 6 small slices. One pizza can feed two hungry kids or one hungry adult.

family-friendly restaurant tip A4 could be a fun date night spot sans kiddies.  Test your trivia knowledge at Trivia Night on the second Tuesday of every month. Or come late night – pizza’s are half off after 11pm.

Kid’s Menu:

There is no kids menu but most young diners will be more than happy with the pizza at this family-friendly Somerville spot. The Margherita is a basic pie with hand-pulled mozzarella . Kids can also choose to add extra toppings such as bacon and chicken.

family-friendly restaurant tip Like Area Four, A4’s pizza is cooked in a wood-fired oven until the crust is crisp and slightly charred. Some kids may not like pizza cooked this way, though after a taste, they might not even notice.

family-friendly restaurant tip A4’s dessert menu is limited to Hoodsie’s Cup and Marino’s Italian Ice, which we suspect most kids will enjoy.

Nearby Attractions:

family-friendly restaurant tip Members of Brooklyn Boulders get 10% off food Sunday-Wednesday when you eat in and show your membership card.

High Chairs

family-friendly restaurant tip A4 small single bathrooms do not have changing tables, so plan accordingly.
