Overview:

The popular Asian food truck Bon Me recently launched their first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the heart of the Kendall Square. Food trucks can be a great kid-friendly dining option. But restaurants are typically more kid-friendly thanks to more comfortable seating, restrooms, and other amenities.

Bon Me food trucks are known for their Vietnamese-inspired street fare. In just two years, their popularity has grown, helping husband and wife team Patrick Lynch and Ali Fong expand to a sleek and stylish location. Still serving up their signature bold Vietnamese menu, Bon Me Kendall Sq is a much anticipated addition to their food truck fleet.

family-friendly restaurant tip Bon Me has limited seating (seats about 16). Much of their business comes during peak lunch hours. Go before the lunch rush or evenings and weekends if you want to snag a table for a more kid-friendly dining experience.

KidTude:

Luke warm. At the time of our review, Bon Me did not have highchairs or booster seats. Older kids will be comfortable perched on stools or on the industrial-style seating.

Kid-friendly dining Bon Me MenuMain Menu:

Bon Me’s menu is similar to their food truck offering, which can be pretty limited (but we expect will continue to grow). You have your choice of a sandwich ($6), rice bowl ($6.50), or noodle salad ($7) plus your choice of a filling – Spice-Rubbed Chicken, Miso-Braised Pulled Pork, and Roasted Soy & Paprika Tofu. For an extra $2 you can get a larger portion. Sides include “Deviled” Tea Egg ($2.50), Asian Greens ($2.50) and Edamame ($2). There’s also an array of house-made drinks ($2-3) and seasonal desserts (many which can only be found at the restaurant and not on the food trucks).

Favorites include:

  • “Decidedly unauthentic” Bon Me Sandwich
  • Rice Bowl with spiced-rubbed chicken
  • Deviled Tea Eggs
  • Thai Iced Tea

Kid’s Menu:

Bon Me does not have a kids menu, but the rice bowl or noodle salad are sure to please the pickiest eaters. Bon Me staff is happy to make substitutions to cater to varying tastes.
