Overview:

kid-friendly mexican el pelon gallery

Boston has its fair share of taquerias, serving up inexpensive, jumbo burritos and tacos for the hungry masses (a majority of which are the city’s college students). So it comes to no surprise these kid-friendly Mexican restaurants often battle for the title of “Best Burrito.” What happens when one of Boston’s original taquerias is recognized as having one of the best burritos in the country? You get a loyal customer base displaying their love for El Pelon all over the world.

family-friendly restaurant tip El Pelon has two locations: Fenway and Brighton (Boston College campus). You can expect to wait in line during peak dining hours. Avoid a wait by arriving early or pre-ordering via the mobile app.

KidTude:

Good. The young staff at the counter are friendly and helpful at this kid-friendly Mexican restaurant. There are highchairs, but seating is limited. You’ll find mostly college students (Brighton location) and few families eating at the handful of tables and counter seating against the gallery wall.

family-friendly restaurant tip The kitchen cooks up authentic Mexican cuisine pretty quickly, so wait times are minimal. If you find yourself waiting, kids will enjoy exploring the colorful Mexican folk art adorning the walls.

Main Menu:

El Guapo (credit: facebook)

El Pelon’s menu features a wide variety of authentic Mexican street food. From quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, tortas and of course, burritos. El Pelon sources their ingredients from small, local businesses. The burritos are giant, and rolled expertly with even distribution of ingredients (though some purist complain burritos should not include lettuce).

Favorites include:

  • Fish Tacos
  • El Guapo Burrito
  • Caramelos Tacos
  • Horchata

family-friendly restaurant tip If you think you’ll be a regular customer, get punch card for a free burrito after 12 visits.

Kid’s Menu:

This kid-friendly Mexican restaurant offers a great kid’s menu (and a tremendous deal) that will satisfy most picky eaters:

  • Peloncito Combo (half cheese quesadilla with choice of meat or veggies) for $3.50
  • Chiquito Combo (one plain corn taco with cheese and choice of meat) for $3.99
  • Guapito Combo (10” burrito with rice, cheese and choice of meat or veggies) for $4.99
